Well, here I go, writing my very first blog for Truth in IT (I.T. = Information Technology, for those you who are tempted to say “it”). I am feeling a bit behind in my game since I am the last of our immense staff of 3 to start blogging. It’s taken me a while to find my place in the blogosphere, being the least technical person on our team. I cannot write, with any confidence, a great review of a product I wouldn’t even begin to know how to set-up, much less test, so I will leave that up to my ridiculously technical genius cohorts W. Curtis Preston (aka Mr. Backup) http://backupcentral.com/mr-backup-blog-mainmenu-47.html and Reed Robins http://thereedrobins.wordpress.com/author/thereedrobins/.
I’ll stick with what I know and what I love about being part of this great team. This is easily the most fun I have ever had at something I call a “job”. It’s completely fulfilling to come to work in a place where there is genuine camaraderie and a sincere desire to make what we do fun. I’ll cover all the shenanigans we’re up to, some of our silly stories and share videos of our escapades while we are out and about sharing knowledge to our friends in the storage industry. Curtis and Reed will educate and I will do my best to entertain. Rest assured, what I cannot deliver in entertainment, the guys will surely make up for.
What is it we do, you ask?
At this point, it’s a loaded question…
We like to call it EDUTAINMENT. After years of sitting through hundreds, if not thousands of hours of “death by PowerPoint” storage seminars and conferences, we decided to bring some fun to the IT industry! While we primarily are focused on getting good, truthful and interesting information out to Storage Industry end-users, we work hard to make it fun and entertaining too. We are really an IT media company and even though we’ve only been at this since January, we are really in our stride and exceeding our expectations.
So far this year, we have taken our seminar Backup Central Live! on the road to 10 cities and we have 10 more to hit through November. You can check out http://www.BackupCentralLive.com for more information and to find out if we’re coming to a city near you. At each of our events, we’ve been sharing some exclusive music video spoofs. With few exceptions (like people who are offended by a nearly naked Lady Gaga) they have been a huge hit and a great way to break up a day. So far we’ve spoofed Paul McCartney’s Yesterday, Elvis Presley’s In the Ghetto, (In LTO) and Lady GaGa’s Bad Romance (Bad Restore). We have big plans to create actual videos, produced in-house, so we can share them on the web. We are also in the process of writing some new spoofs, so we’ll keep things fresh.
But the truly exciting thing we are working on is a full-fledged digital film studio in our office where we plan to produce a whole lot more. While I can’t give up too much info…yet… I thought I’d just let a little slip to get you to start wondering what we’re really up to. SO! unbeknownst to my boss (until now) he has actually given me my dream job of being a PRODUCER!!! Now, I just have to see if I can really do it! eeeek
Well, I’ve hit the end of my day and I need to get out of here so I can go home and pack for my trip to Phoenix tomorrow to meet with the incomparable Stephen Foskett.
If all goes as planned, we will be shooting some fun video from the road….
Until next time, remember, You CAN handle the truth!
